Back To The Basics

Starting a garden might seem overwhelming at first, but it’s actually one of the most rewarding and relaxing hobbies you can pick up! With a few basics, you can grow your own plants, herbs, vegetables, or flowers right at home.

Use Quality Soil

  • Healthy plants start with good soil. Avoid using dirt from your yard—use:

  • Potting mix for containers

  • Garden soil or compost for outdoor beds

  • Good soil helps with drainage, nutrients, and root growth.

Choose the Right Location

  • Plants need sunlight to grow. Most vegetables and flowers require 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

  • Look for a spot in your yard, balcony, or near a window that gets plenty of light. If you don’t have outdoor space, indoor gardening with pots works great too.

Water Properly

  • Overwatering is one of the most common beginner mistakes.

  • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry

  • Water deeply, but not too often

  • Make sure pots have drainage holes

Understand Your Plant’s Needs

  • Each plant is a little different.

  • Pay attention to:

  • Sunlight requirements

  • Water needs

  • Spacing between plants

  • Reading the plant label or seed packet helps a lot.
